Community Code of Conduct
Our shared commitment to fostering a positive and respectful environment.
Purpose
The Women in Dataviz community connects data visualization enthusiasts, practitioners, and students from around the world. This diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we value the contributions of each individual. We strive to maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who wishes to participate in our Slack community and events. We welcome open discourse and exchange of ideas.
To ensure that we continue to provide a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for all, we've defined the following standards and expect all community members to adhere to them.
Standards
At a minimum, we expect community members to exhibit the following behaviors that contribute to a positive environment for everyone.
  • Be kind.
  • Respect differing experiences, points of view, and opinions.
  • Use inclusive language.
  • If you're unsure of someone's preferred pronouns, please check their Slack profile. If this field isn't populated, ask rather than assuming. (And to make it easier for everyone to remember, please update your own Slack profile's pronouns field.)
Hateful speech and actions are not tolerated, ever.
Posts, discussions, comments, or actions promoting hatred or violence of any kind--including, but not limited to, racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, religious or cultural insensitivity or intolerance (e.g., antisemitism, anti-anyone's faith or cultural background), transphobia, homophobia, and queerphobia--are not acceptable in our Slack community or events. An individual exhibiting this behavior will be removed from the Slack workspace and prohibited from attending Women in Dataviz events. Please report hateful or violent posts to a moderator as soon as possible.
Trust intent, name impact.
Trust that everyone in this group has each other's best interests at heart, but if someone says something incorrect or hurtful, name what impact that has.
Some posts or comments may be hurtful to a community member or objectively untrue and the person posting does not realize it. In these cases, please speak up. If you're not comfortable addressing the potentially harmful or false post or comment yourself, please contact a moderator.
If you're new to the Women in Dataviz community and use our Slack workspace or attend our events, please the short form below acknowledging that you've read, and agree to abide by, the code of conduct.
